<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/curvy_19_okt_2011_1.jpg" alt="" title="curvy_19_okt_2011_1" width="560" height="280" align="centered" size-full wp-image-7847" />OK, just one more post about the damn candle holders before I show you the finished product. I can’t help myself. The texture in the wood (birch) is really popping now that they’ve been treated with a mix of linseed oil and turpentine. One more turn of sanding by hand on Friday and then another coat of oil/turpentine — then it’s time for paint (and the actual candle fixtures in some kind of metal).

BTW, I’m happy to say that the amount of visitors have trippled since I started to blog more frequently. It’s so nice to have you guys visiting this small blog in the utmost (funny word!) corner of the Internet!

Sanding by hand is quite a workout. They DO look better than in the shots above, I was just messing about with Hipstamatic for the iPhone. The next Curvy update will feature the finished product — I think.

<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/curvy_2011_1.jpg" alt="" title="curvy_2011_1" width="560" height="280" align="center" size-full wp-image-7669" />

<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/dalabra_englishred.jpg" alt="" title="dalabra_englishred" width="97" height="46" align="left" size-full wp-image-7670" />I’m doing a new batch of the curvy wood candle holders. This time; birch. Only a few will be in its natural wood texture, most of them will be in English Red and a special Swedish color called Dalablå (Dala Blue). I found two variants of these colors and attached them to this post for reference. I’ve already got the pigments back in the wood shop, not sure how they will actually turn out in the end, kind of exciting.

Anyway, they are going to be super nice. One is already sold (they’re not even 50% done yet). The actual metal candle fixtures will be in “metal” and “gold”. I don’t like the gold ones — but the customers do, and they are always wrong. Will post some more as the work progresses, or I’ll just post the final item. Have a nice weekend!

I'm back in the wood shop. Birch cutting boards coming along nicely. Pictures of the work in progress.

Holy moly, close to TEN days without a single update on the blog. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again a thousand times; having your own independent blog funded out of your own pocket is soooooo nice. Not having to worry about ad revenue and SEO optimization. What a rat race that must be. Anyway, I’m back in the wood shop! The place looks just as we left it before the summer hiatus. I’m relieved to have the traumatic moment of slot cutting with the router behind me, I was worried, not about the design but the fact that the wood easily get burned when routing. Lo and behold — it went without a hitch. Or spark. I present you with two giant photos of the Birch Cutting Boards:

<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/cuttingboard_aug_1.jpg" alt="" title="cuttingboard_aug_1" width="560" height="420" align="center" size-full wp-image-5555" />Before oil coat and polish

<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/cuttingboard_aug_2.jpg" alt="" title="cuttingboard_aug_2" width="560" height="420" align="center" size-full wp-image-5556" />Routed handle for easy lifting

I’m going to sand the edges down just a tad. The edges need to be quite sharp to give the “handles” some grip when lifting. Some additional sanding (by hand) remains still and then it’s time for some coats of finish. I hate to let them go and I’d really like to keep at least one for myself. If I do miss them when they’re gone I can always do two more, or ten.

My new Alder Wood Candle Holder is done. With pictures.

I almost forgot to write an update on my latest woodworking project! I laid my finishing touches on it well over a week ago but I couldn’t write about it until today.

Why, you may ask? Well, you see — it was a Christmas gift for my father. Here is a link to the previous post. Anyway, here it is, the Alder Wood Candle Holder:
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_wood_1.jpg" alt="woodworking" title="curvy_wood_1" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-369" />
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_wood_2.jpg" alt="aldertree" title="curvy_wood_2" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-370" />
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_wood_3.jpg" alt="" title="curvy_wood_3" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-371" />

It turned out real nice and I’m doing two more after the Christmas break. I’ve already started and I can’t wait to get back to work! Bigger pics of the piece can be viewed at my Flickr page. Two more in the works…

My new woodworking project. A curvy light holder.

We had our yearly Christmas Bazaar a few weeks ago (November 25:th). I missed out since I was at the hospital.

It was a huge success and our woodworking department sold almost everything we had worked on during the year.
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_1.jpg" alt="curvy_1" title="curvy_1" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-299" />
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_2.jpg" alt="curvy_2" title="curvy_2" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-300" />
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_3.jpg" alt="curvy_3" title="curvy_3" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-301" />
So, it’s time to start anew with a fresh project. I chose to do a new light holder, it’ll make a perfect Christmas present and I hope it’ll be ready in time! Project name: ‘Curvy’. The first step was cutting it out in the band saw, then quite a bit of work on the belt sander, then back again to the saw doing the cut outs. After a few turns back and forth it’s sanding by hand — I guess it’ll take… forever. Sanding by hand is tedious but it’s totally worth it. I’ll keep you guys in the loop!
