No new posts from me the last few days. That’s just the way it is. This post: A brand new track — released on Jan 17 — from MNDR, the American duo consisting of Amanda Warner and Peter Wade. I’m really not sure if they are still a duo though, or if Amanda (MNDR) is going at it as a solo act, but that’s what Wikipedia says anyways. If you feel like buying it; click here to go to the record label. I can listen (and I do) to this track on repeat. Mostly because it’s good but also because my temporary neighbor is seemingly 99% deaf; his TV is constantly blasting through the wall.

Wild Flag is an American four-piece Indie rock group based in Portland, Oregon and Washington, D.C.. The group consists of Carrie Brownstein (vocals, guitar), Mary Timony (vocals, guitar), Rebecca Cole (keyboards, backing vocals) and Janet Weiss (drums, backing vocals). The band is most known for consisting of ex-members of the bands Sleater-Kinney, Helium and The Minders.

For those of you who recognize her; yes, that’s Carrie Brownstein from the band Sleater-Kinney (Janet Weiss is also in both bands) and the TV show Portlandia.

What style to write in and how to go about describing “Voyage”; the debut album from The Sound of Arrows. The instrumental version — or the “The Instrumental Experience” as it’s called is currently playing in the background and it’s just as good as the “normal” one with vocals. I can almost never sit through a whole album in one sitting when listening to it for the first time but this one, no problem. The tracks that we love and have had a chance to listen to prior to the release of the album (Nova, Into the Clouds, Magic) are now fused together with a slew of new tracks and the work is now complete.

Brand new video uploaded to YouTube (31 views!) to the track “Wonders”.

I have to be honest though, there were several instances where I thought that tracks sounded sub par at the start but they all explode or develop into something wonderful. Picking the best track on the album is not hard, it’s impossible. This is Swedish Widescreen pop at its finest and I love it.

I’ve been listening (a lot) to the latest album from M83. “Hurry Up We’re Dreaming” is pretty much top notch stuff all way through – including this track with saxophone leads and everything. I can’t remember exactly but there’s something like 22 tracks all in all. My favorite track from the album is “Intro” with Zola Jesus on vocals (and I think Morgan Kibby is in there too). I might ask her and sort this out (Tweet sent!). Good album, go buy it. Update: Morgan Kibby answered my question: “@fredstuff Zola sings it but I wrote the lyrics!! So happy you like :)“. So, there.

One of my Facebook friends (Johannes Helje) is a cinematographer, he does loads of music videos including this brand new one from the Swedish sister-duo First Aid Kit. It was uploaded to YouTube just minutes ago (168 views!). “The Lion’s Roar” is the title track from the bands second and upcoming album. A bit of Wikipedia knowledge:

First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo composed of sisters Johanna (b. 1990) and Klara (b. 1993) Söderberg, whose close vocal harmonies and woodsy, folk-influenced songwriting take influence from the likes of Fleet Foxes and Joanna Newsom. Hailing from Enskede, a southern suburb of Stockholm, the teenaged siblings began composing songs in 2007. Their 2008 YouTube video cover of the song “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song” by the Fleet Foxes spread their name rapidly on the Internet, the sisters subsequently appeared alongside Fleet Foxes performing the song in a concert in Holland.
