Just a quick update. The new batch of the birch candle holders are coming along nicely. I drilled all the holes for the actual candle fixtures today — the photos posted are before that. Next time I post about them it’ll be the finished product. I might experiment a bit with staining on at least one of them (to go along with the usual linseed oil and turpentine). Stay tuned!

Yup. I started on another batch of the curvy candle holders right after I finished the oak ones. This time: birch. I have a feeling they’re going to turn out quite nice.

Ooops. Forgot to post the final result of the candle holders. They are done, finished, ready! I don’t have a clue as to what the next project will be. Not a clue. If I/we fail to come up with something I might as well do another batch of the curvy candle holders — they are top sellers. New week, new plans!

I finally bought the iPhone app Cross Process. It was the measly sum of $1.99 that held me back — it’s silly I know. I like the app, but I would like if even more if the contrast was just a tad more prominent. It IS a cross process effect I know, I get it but it looks a bit too faded. That’s an easy fix in Photoshop or any editor on the iPhone so no biggie. If you’d like to read up on the app, Life in LoFi is the place to go; crazy long review over there. To wrap it up: I would recommend this app. I also like their (Banana Camera Co.) other app ShakeItPhoto.

I though I should post just one more pic of the oak candle holders when they are a work in progress. I’m doing five of them and there’s just a bit more drilling and then finishing with the usual (couple of) coats of turpentine and linseed oil. When they’re done I’d like to do another batch of those heavy duty cuttingboards I did a while back, it’s just a matter of finding the right material in the wood shop. If that fails I’ll just go and buy a chainsaw and find a damn tree myself.

My supervisor/instructor at the wood shop gave me his brothers old camera tripod. It’s called SLIK 35D and from Googling the name it seems like it was made a thousand years ago — but it’s in remarkably good condition and a welcome addition since the one I already own is a bit on the cheap side (and rather small). The picture makes the tripod look like a mini tripod but that’s just the perspective — it’s full size. It’ll be a perfect companion to my trusty (old) Nikon D40.

I’m doing five of them and I completed the trickiest part today, I don’t even know what the process is called in English — for once, I fail… I’ll keep posting the progress until finished product. “Heaven’s on Fire” was the song that got me listening to Kiss. The Year was 1986, pretty late when it comes to Kiss. I remember it because I got “Animalize” by Kiss and “Come Out and Play” by Twisted Sister from my uncle that Christmas. If I recall correctly I also got “Slippery When Wet” by Bon Jovi. Things moved pretty fast from there, those records acted like a gateway drug into heavier stuff — one year later me and a friend formed a Death Metal band. I took the pic above on the Swedish Christmas Eve yesterday (December 24:th). The UK and the US celebrate tonight — once again, Merry Christmas! Or Happy Festivus as I prefer to say.
