My new Alder Wood Candle Holder is done. With pictures.

I almost forgot to write an update on my latest woodworking project! I laid my finishing touches on it well over a week ago but I couldn’t write about it until today.

Why, you may ask? Well, you see — it was a Christmas gift for my father. Here is a link to the previous post. Anyway, here it is, the Alder Wood Candle Holder:
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_wood_1.jpg" alt="woodworking" title="curvy_wood_1" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-369" />
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_wood_2.jpg" alt="aldertree" title="curvy_wood_2" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-370" />
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_wood_3.jpg" alt="" title="curvy_wood_3" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-371" />

It turned out real nice and I’m doing two more after the Christmas break. I’ve already started and I can’t wait to get back to work! Bigger pics of the piece can be viewed at my Flickr page. Two more in the works…

My new woodworking project. A curvy light holder.

We had our yearly Christmas Bazaar a few weeks ago (November 25:th). I missed out since I was at the hospital.

It was a huge success and our woodworking department sold almost everything we had worked on during the year.
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_1.jpg" alt="curvy_1" title="curvy_1" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-299" />
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_2.jpg" alt="curvy_2" title="curvy_2" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-300" />
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/curvy_3.jpg" alt="curvy_3" title="curvy_3" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-301" />
So, it’s time to start anew with a fresh project. I chose to do a new light holder, it’ll make a perfect Christmas present and I hope it’ll be ready in time! Project name: ‘Curvy’. The first step was cutting it out in the band saw, then quite a bit of work on the belt sander, then back again to the saw doing the cut outs. After a few turns back and forth it’s sanding by hand — I guess it’ll take… forever. Sanding by hand is tedious but it’s totally worth it. I’ll keep you guys in the loop!

BigFace Case for iPod Shuffle is Silly

Operate your Shuffle while wearing gloves with a huge and silly case.

<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/bigface_1.jpg" alt="bigface_1" title="bigface_1" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-119" />
<img src="http://fredstuff.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/bigface_2.jpg" alt="bigface_2" title="bigface_1" width="425" height="319" align="center" size-full wp-image-119" />
I don’t even know why I’m posting this. A silly case for a silly little mp3 player.

The BigFace case allows 1st and 2nd generation ipod Shuffle users to operate the Shuffle while wearing gloves. The BigFace site sports a pic of a healty guy and gal out on the slopes for a day of fun. If you need to change tracks while snowboarding/skiing you A. failed at compiling a banging playlist back at the lodge B. are not enjoying snowboarding/skiing. Are the couple on the company site even wearing the device around their pink necks? Looks like a five year old did some Photoshop magic to tell you the truth.

And another thing – you bought the wrong mp3-player. If you are looking for a tiny device with good audio quality – not decent – good, you need to buy the SanDisk Sansa Clip.

Ahhh, that felt good.

Church in Holland converted into cool bookstore.

Now this is cool. A 13th-century Dominican church in Maastricht, Holland turned into a bookstore by architecture firm Merkx+Girod. It’s a Flash site so there’s no way to link to the project, insted go to their site and click;

Projects>Retail>Shops>Selexyz Bookstores>Maastricht.

Crazy, it’s 2009 guys, Flash?

Every time I visit a church I get the feeling I want to turn it into a nightclub or a venue for live music – not that I have the funds to do it – but you get the idea.
